A/N: One more after this and we’ll be done with Borra week! Then we just have to continue on with the rest of 15 day of Borra… Yey..
Day 6: Surprise
Korra was used to relatively small birthday bashes back at home. It would normally just be her, her parents, Sifu Katara and Naga with a small cake. She was fine with that. Since she was in Republic City, though, she didn’t really expect any celebration of any kind. Which, she was still fine with. Parties were never really her thing anyway.
She woke up that morning to the same, every day Air Temple Island life. Jinora was reading at the table while eating her breakfast, Ikki was talking vehemently to Tenzin about her dream last night and Meelo was giving Pema a rough time while she tried to put some clothes on him. He kept shouting, “No! You cannot clothe the naked warrior! That defeats the purpose of the naked part!” as he tried to crawl away from her.
Korra sat down at the table and helped herself to breakfast. Tenzin looked at her, breaking from listening to Ikki’s fascinating tale of unicorn dragon hybrids that could swim underwater. “Good morning, Korra.”
“Morning, Tenzin,” she smiled at him.
“Any special plans for the day?”
“Nope. Nothing at all.”
Tenzin looked down at his food. “Ah. Well, okay then,” he said nonchalantly.
The day progressed like normal after that.
Lunch came and passed. Korra had gone out to the city after that to seek out Bolin, Mako and Asami. They weren’t anywhere to be found, which was rather sad, actually. Korra didn’t mind not celebrating her birthday, but she certainly didn’t want to spend it alone, either.
She wandered around Republic City with Naga, then, window shopping and buying food from vendors.
She didn’t return back to the island until well past dinner. She walked into the dining area, closing the door behind her.
The room was dark.
She pursed her lips and turned on the lights and was immediately taken aback by the yells of, “Surprise!” that greeted her when she did.
Before her stood Tenzin’s family, Mako, Asami and Bolin. Bolin had the largest grin on his face as he held a rather large cake out in front of him. There were tons of candles on the cake, lit and waiting to be blown out. On the cake were the words, “Happy Birthday, Korra!” sloppily written with icing.
“Happy Birthday, Korra!” Bolin said, placing the cake gingerly on the table in front of him. He walked over to her and gave her a huge hug, engulfing her in his arms. He planted a kiss on her forehead as the rest of the crew joined in on the hug.
Korra certainly missed her parents, but she could definitely say that this was one of the best birthdays she had ever had, there in Bolin’s arms along with her friends. What a suprise, she mused to herself.
